How to Add an AI Chatbot to a Wix Website
By Karla, founder of Proxxie · How-to ·

To add an AI chatbot to Wix, copy the chatbot's embed code, then in your Wix dashboard go to Settings, open Custom Code, add the code, apply it to all pages, and place it at the end of the body. Custom Code requires a paid Wix plan and a connected domain. The whole process takes about five minutes.
This guide works for most chatbot tools that give you a script tag to paste, including Proxxie.

Before you start
You'll need:
- A published Wix site with a connected domain. Wix requires both before you can use Custom Code, and connecting a domain needs a paid site plan (a Premium plan, or a Studio plan for sites built in the Studio Editor).
- Your chatbot's embed code, usually a single line starting with
<script. In Proxxie, open the chatbot, go to the Embed Code tab and click Copy Code. - A few minutes to test.
Step 1: Copy your embed code
Open your chatbot dashboard and copy the full embed snippet. Copy all of it, from <script to </script>. A missing character is the most common reason a chatbot doesn't show up.
Step 2: Open Custom Code in Wix
- Log in to Wix and open your site's dashboard.
- Go to Settings.
- In the Development & integrations section, click Custom Code.
Step 3: Add the code
- Click + Add Custom Code.
- Paste your embed code into the box.
- Give it a name you'll recognize, like "Website chatbot."
- Under Add Code to Pages, choose All pages. Wix then asks whether to load the code once per visit or on each page your visitor opens. Once per visit is fine for a chat bubble; if the bubble ever disappears when you move between pages, switch to loading it on each page.
- Under Place Code in, choose Body - end.
- Click Apply.
Placing the code at the end of the body lets your page load first, so the chatbot never slows down what visitors see.
Step 4: Publish and test
Custom Code applies to your live site. Open your website in a new private or incognito window and look for the chat bubble, usually in the bottom-right corner. Open it and ask a real customer question.
Why not use the Embed HTML element?
Wix also has an Embed HTML element (in the editor, Add Elements, then Embed Code) that you can drag onto a page. It shows the code inside a fixed box (an iframe) on the page, which doesn't suit a floating chat bubble that should appear everywhere. Use Custom Code instead.
Troubleshooting
The chat bubble doesn't appear.
- Confirm your site is published and has a connected domain.
- Check you pasted the entire code.
- Make sure you're viewing the live site, not the editor preview.
- Clear your browser cache or try a private window.
- Wix added extra security checks for custom code in December 2025, and it may block some older snippets. If yours is blocked, ask your chatbot provider for an updated version.
It appears on some pages but not others. Edit the Custom Code entry and make sure All pages is selected.
It shows up twice. You've probably added the code twice, once in Custom Code and once elsewhere. Remove the duplicate. (Proxxie ignores a second copy on the same page, but other tools may not.)
It covers another button on mobile. Some Wix templates place their own floating buttons in the same corner. Check whether your chatbot tool lets you change the widget's position, or move the other element. In Proxxie, the Widget placement settings on the Embed Code tab let you switch to the bottom left or change the distance from the bottom and side. Copy the code again afterwards and replace the old entry, because the placement lives in the code.
After it's installed
Installing the chatbot is the quick part. What makes it useful is the content behind it. Use our knowledge base checklist to make sure it can answer what your visitors actually ask.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add a chatbot to a free Wix site?
Wix restricts Custom Code on free sites, so you'll generally need a paid plan with a connected domain.
Will a chatbot slow down my Wix site?
It shouldn't. Placed at the end of the body with the async attribute (Proxxie's embed code includes it), the chatbot script loads without holding up the rest of your page.
Do I need to edit code?
No. You only paste the code your chatbot gives you.
Can I remove the chatbot later?
Yes. Go back to Settings, then Custom Code, and turn off or delete the entry.
